Laurie Januska
Born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, a breath away from the live music scene and well within the radio frequency of rock & roll hotbed and R&B capital Detroit, Michigan, Laurie Januska was raised on a steady dose of straight-up rock and roll with a Motown twist. In fact, Laurie’s father played saxophone in a number of bands that performed with Motown acts on both sides of the Detroit River in the early sixties. Hearing his stories about live performances and life on the road gave her a personal snapshot of that magical time in music history and ultimately fueled her fire.
An eighties marriage of music and image drew her into the Communications Studies program at the University of Windsor where she majored in film studies. She also studied photography, plying her trade at many concerts unbeknownst to security who failed to find her deftly-hidden camera. After graduation, she followed the path of many aspiring filmmakers at that time and relocated to Toronto where she began a career in the film industry.
After years immersing herself in the local music scene it became apparent there were ways to meld her entertainment industry knowledge with her long-standing passion for live music. Her new-found business connections and flair for managing events, ever-present camera, outgoing personality, and network of musician-friends worked together to bring her energies back to her roots. Cougar Records Entertainment is the culmination of these efforts. Whether it’s booking artists, coordinating bills, promoting events or photographing artists for promotion or capturing them in live performance, Laurie brings her passion and drive to the edge of the stage with that original fire. |
